Competition 2016

The International Piano Competition for Young Musicians is open for pianists of all nationalities with exception of the first prizewinners of the former International Piano competitions in Enschede in the same age group.

The competition is divided in two age groups:

  • Group A: from 10 up to and including 15 years old (applicants born between (1 Nov. 2000 and 1 Nov. 2006).
  • Group B: from 16 up to and including 19 years old (applicants born between (1 Nov. 1996 and 1 Nov. 2000).

There is a preliminary round based on the applicants recordings - unedited video web-links (YouTube) The preliminary judging will determine who may take part in the competition.

An unedited recording must contain only solo piano works and may contain pieces to be performed during the Competition.

The recordings for the preliminary round in the group A (5-10 minutes) should contain the following works:

1.One virtuoso study
2.One movement from classical sonata
3.Work of applicant’s free choice

The recordings for the preliminary round in the group B (10-15 minutes) should contain the following works:

1.One virtuoso study
2.One movement from classical sonata
3.Work of applicant’s free choice

Repertoire

Group A

There are two rounds in this group. The whole repertoire must be played from memory. The allowed performance duration is 10-15 minutes.

First Round

  • One polyphonic work at the participant's discretion;
  • One virtuoso study by Czerny, Clementi, Chopin or Liszt;
  • A composition at the participant's discretion;
    No more than 9 participants will be admitted to the final round.

Final Round

The maximum performance duration is 20 minutes.
  • A sonata (or one movement) by Haydn, Mozart or Beethoven;
  • One or more modern compositions (after 1950) at the participant's discretion.
    (The participants have to hand in 3 copies of the modern piece at the registration)
  • One or more works at participant's discretion;
    The program should be well-balanced between virtuoso and cantilena music.
  • Group B

    There are two rounds in this group. The whole repertoire must be played from memory.

      The maximum allowed performance duration is 20 minutes.

      First Round

      • A Prelude and Fugue from Das Wohltemperierte Klavier I or II by J.S. Bach;
      • One virtuoso study by Chopin, Liszt, Rachmaninov or Skriabin;
      • One movement from a sonata by Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven or Schubert; *
      • A composition at the participant's discretion;
        * The participant can play if desired a movement of sonata, which he or she will play in the final round completely.
        No more than 9 participants will be admitted to the final round.

      Final Round

        The maximum performance duration is 35 minutes.
    • A Sonata by Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven or Schubert;
    • One or more romantic compositions;
    • One or more modern compositions (after 1950) at the participant's discretion.
      (The participants have to hand in 3 copies of the modern piece at the registration)

    International Piano Festival 2015

    The Foundation International Piano Competition organizes in October 2015 for the sixth time the International Piano Festival. Prize winners of the last International Piano Competition for Young Musicians in Enschede in 2014 have the opportunity to come back to Twente to play for audiences. This event will be held from 11 till 16 of October  in the Arke Zaal of the Music Centre Enschede, in the Watestaatskerk in Hengelo and in the Theater 'De Kappen' in Haaksbergen.
    Access for concerts in Hengelo and Enschede is free.

    International Music Festival 2013

    International Music Festival 2013

    In October 2013 the Foundation IPC is organising an International Music Festival under Netherlands - Russia Year 2013.

    The Festival aims to put the great Russian music traditions under the spotlight. The Foundation IPC is thereby contributing to a wide cultural program in the country.

    The concerts are provided by winners of the International Piano Competition in Enschede in recent years that have a Russian background.

    Not only concerts but also master classes are given by leading musicians from the 'Russian school' from home and abroad during the festival.

    Masterclasses for piano and violin are intended for all interested parties: musicschool students, consevatorium music students and amateurs.

    The International Music Festival will be held from 14 to October 20, 2013 in the Arke Zaal of the Music Centre in Enschede, in the Waterstaatskerk in Hengelo, in the "Kaliber" Art School in Enschede and in the "Koetshuis" in Oldenzaal. Admission to all concerts and master classes are free.

    The Organization Committee of the competition wishes every participant a good preparation and is looking forward in seeing all of them in October 2012 in Enschede!
